GODLY CHARACTER

Godly character can be defined as "the ability to discern God's right way from the wrong, and to voluntarily surrender one's own will to do what is right in God's sight and, with the promised supernatural help, to resist the wrong even under pressure and temptation."

A shorter definition is: "Godly character is consistently doing the right thing at the right time in the right way for the right reason."

Or, character is what you do when no one is looking.

Here are three of the many scriptures that relate to developing character.

1. Hate evil and love good.

"Seek good and not evil, that you may live; so the Lord God of hosts will be with you, as you have spoken. Hate evil, love good; establish justice in the gate. It may be that the Lord God of hosts will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph" (Amos 5:14-15).

2. Don't let bad company corrupt your character.

"Do not be misled: 'Bad company corrupts good character'" (1 Corinthians 15:33, New International Version).

3. Persevering builds character.

"And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope" (Romans 5:3-4).
